Yoga

We are happy to announce a new name for the studio and some improvements to our timetable. The studio will be known as Karma Shala and there are four new classes!  A new teacher, and renaming the classes for a clearer picture of what to expect in each class.

New Teacher:     Brad Shrimpton will be joining our teaching team. He started yoga back in 2000 when he moved to Hong     Kong. "I thought that yoga would provide me with a perfect escape from very crowded city. What it did was the exact opposite - it connected me to the world around me with new eyes - whether it is a crowded Hong Kong the Himalayan mountainS or the Pristine beaches in South Africa. Yoga is about connecting with yourself and others".  Brad has studied Yoga Therapy with A.G Mohan in Chennai India. A.G Mohan co-founded the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (in Chennai, in 1976). Brad also completed a teacher training at Pure Yoga Hong Kong under the guidance of Patrick Creelman.

➢    Power Hour:     Dynamic flowing class inspired by the Ashtanga Yoga form. A chance to work up a sweat. Focus on strength, core and agility. Followed by a well  deserved  5-7 minute savasana relaxation.

Lunch Hour:    A moderately paced class, to clear the mind and energize for a productive afternoon. A great break in the day.

➢    Balance :     A balanced and medium paced class, includes breathing techniques (pranayama) and a longer relaxation time.

➢    Silent Yoga (Mysore style):  A quiet self practice at your own pace. Jim facilitates with personalized guidance for optimum alignment and sequencing. Suitable for anyone who can go through a sequence, be it  Ashtanga, Synergy or a combination of these.

➢    Calmer Hour:  A slower paced class, inspired by 'yin' yoga. Stretch and release tension. Focus on alignment, flexibility, core and breathing. Suitable for beginners.

HATHA YOGA

This general approach uses yoga postures, breathing techniques, relaxation to help you stretch, unwind and release mental and physical tension. It can also be used as a remedial tool to overcome stress and strengthen and rebalance the body, mind and spirit.

Depending on your needs and desires we might work quite statically, emphasizing the detail, precision and alignment of your practice, or more dynamically, using the breath to link your poses into a flowing sequence.

We can work very gently or more intensely depending on how you are feeling during your session.

If you want a one-on-one session or have a small group of friends who want to learn yoga, our private classes are tailor-made to suit your needs

ASHTANGA VINYASA YOGA

Ashtanga is a traditional form of yoga, with a lineage that some practitioners claim goes back thousands of years. Sometimes also called "Power Yoga”, this tradition yoga went mainstream when Madonna and Sting took it up.

The Ashtanga method involves synchronizing the breath with a series of flowing postures.

The aim is a kind of moving meditation that that develops mental focus detoxifies and aligns the body while building strength, stamina and flexibility.

If you want a one-on-one session or have a small group of friends who want to learn yoga, our private classes  are tailor-made to suit your needs.

YOGA SYNERGY

Yoga Synergy was established in Sydney Australia in 1984. The directors, who are both qualified physiotherapists, have adapted the traditional practices to suit western bodies and minds.

Yoga Synergy is a flow-style meditative practice, linking postures with the breath while maintaining an awareness of anatomical and physiological alignment, and allowing students to progress with guidance at their own pace.

In its full advanced form, this yoga is as challenging and dynamic as any of the traditional yoga styles can get, and in its simplest form, it is as gentle and soft as one may need or desire – it is up to the individual how hard one works in a Yoga Synergy style class.

Yoga synergy is a highly evolved form of dynamic “power” yoga. It represents a synthesis between AshtangaYoga, Iyengar Yoga, Tibetan yoga and modern medical science. For more on Yogasynergy check www.yogasynergy.com.au

THERAPY YOGA

If you have a particular therapeutic need, we can design a package for you.

This may include a focus on postural corrective exercise, working to heal an injury, or even dealing with a long term illness. There is a wide range of traditional therapeutic “tools” to draw on including asana (postures), pranayama (breath work), relaxation, visualization, and meditation.

Yoga is a remarkable healing process that empowers ones own inner healer to step forward.

CORPORATE CLASSES

Just because we are yogis, that doesn’t mean we don’t understand stress.

In fact we have a corporate stress management package developed by a psychologist that can help your staff understand stress and then turn it around.

Using modern medical understanding to explain the physiology and psychology of stress, we then teach practical methods to improve concentration, shift bad moods and inoculate against the burden of stress that leads down the road to burnout.

Whether it’s a corporate stress management program, a lunch hour power yoga class, or a once in a while team building yoga treat, contact us and we can organize it for you.

Private Instruction

Traditional Yoga and Pilates instruction was always one to one. And private tuition gives you ultimate flexibility to choose your class time and location.

It’s about your own personal journey, so it’s important that you enjoy your practice and feel completely comfortable with your teacher.

Working one-on-one or in a small group allows the teacher to give you their full attention so that the class is personalised to your specific needs

Karmacalmer caters for all levels, from the complete beginner to the more experienced practitioner. Whether you want private instruction on a regular basis or just want a session or two to work on something in particular, we will tailor the style, level and content to achieve exactly what you need.
